Australian Open 2016 Day 2 Review

Day two at the Australian Open has been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster. We’ve seen plenty of upsets but also some great moments which is what the Happy Slam is all about!

Today saw quite a few upsets in Melbourne but who has left on Day 2?

Simona Halep
Venus Williams
Rafael Nadal
Kevin Anderson
Fabio Fognini

The ones that stand out for me are the defeats to Anderson, Halep and Nadal. Even though I thought Verdasco had a chance against the Spaniard it’s still one of those major shocks!

Magnificent Muguruza

The song by Alicia Keys goes something like “this girl is on fire” and Garbine Muguruza was on form against Anett Kontaveit in round one. She ran the show from the first to last ball winning 9 of the first 10 games in the match and sealing the first set in little time at all. I will post a link to my piece on the match at the bottom J

Brit Watch!

On Day 2, two went through and two went out! Johanna Konta and Andy Murray both secured straight set wins in Melbourne whereas Dan Evans and Aljaz Bedene tournament’s came to an end with both losing in straight sets. Dan lost to Feliciano Lopez and Aljaz lost to Steve Johnson.

Simona Halep defeated in straight sets!

Exceptional Azarenka wins 6-0 6-0 in Melbourne

Rafael Nadal defeated in Melbourne

Konta and Murray through in straight sets 🙂

Garbine Muguruza strolls into round two!
