Cruise control. Andy Murray cruised past Borna Comic in the previous round in just 58 minutes yesterday and today the Brit was even more brutal as he took just 53 minutes to see off David Goffin who he will face in Davis Cup at the end of the month winning 6-1 6-0.
To take just 53 minutes to defeat a top 20 player at a Masters 1000 event is quite something. Murray literally ran the show saving the one break point Goffin got a look at and won 70% of points in the match winning 18/20 on his first serve and 11/17 on his second serve.
I said in my preview psychologically this could be a massive blow for either player to lose this one but to lose by such a dominating scoreline could prove costly for Goffin who now has no tournaments left before the Davis Cup final!
However this could also be a good thing as Goffin has more time to go to Belgium, train on the clay court and maybe even watch some of Murrays matches from earlier on in the year when he played some outstanding tennis in Munich and especially Madrid! (I’ll post links to my pieces on Murray in Madrid at the bottom :))
Murray will be back in action again tomorrow this time taking on Richard Gasquet who he leads the head to head with at 6-3 having won their last four matches. As much as I’d love to see it again I can’t see Murray being allowed to dominate the way he has done in his opening two matches spending last then two hours on court!
