Radwanska through to semi-finals!
In her first two matches of the tournament, Radwanska played very well but just couldn’t find the finish line against Pennetta and Sharapova how the Pole found some of her best tennis today to defeat Simona Halep knocking out the top seed who has had a disappointing tournament.
Radwanska saw set point on the Halep serve in the first set but couldn’t convert and then found herself 5-1 down in the tie-break but managed to see it through to complete the set and the win which was her 500th of her career as she advances to the semi-finals.
3 matches, 3 wins for Sharapova
Maria Sharapova is through to the semi-finals after another victory in Singapore this time against Flavia Pennetta who played her last ever match on the tour having decided to retire at the end of the season.
Sharapova has been exceptional this tournament which I am surprised how she has played but pleased for her having not won three matches in a row since late June / early July but her form this week sends out a message to the other top 10 players, she means business!
I am going to cover it in another piece but Simona Halep is out after finishing bottom of her group. The tournament started well with a terrific performance against Flavia Pennetta and then against Sharapova and Radwanska she fell short and didn’t look 100%.
Pennetta’s final match
It’s a sad for Pennetta as today she played her last ever match on the WTA Tour in Singapore with her straight sets defeat to Sharapova. Pennetta has had a great career and has enjoyed a lot of success in the last couple of years finishing with 28 career titles which includes Indian Wells last year and of course the US Open this year!
