Muguruza wins on debut!
Garbine Muguruza may have lost in the doubles to Lucie Safarova the other day but she got her revenge in the singles with a straight sets win against the French Open finalist who hasn’t played much at all recently.
Muguruza went up an early break in the match and never looked back as she went on to claim the first set 6-3 as she broke the serve again of the 28 year old. The second set between the two was much closer and was decided on a tie-break which was one by the Spaniard 7-4 as she went on to claim her first win of the tournament in just under 2 hours 6-3 7-6.
Kerber defeats Kvitova in two sets!
I predicted it and maybe I should have followed my prediction as Angelique Kerber takes out Kvitova in just 1 hour and 45 minutes in Singapore to win 6-2 7-6.
The first set was basically one way traffic as the German raced to a 6-2 lead with just three points dropped behind her own serve in the set and Kvitova only winning 1/7 points on her second serve.
The second set looked like following the same pattern as the first but in the favour of Kvitova as she found herself up 3-0 and 4-2 in the set but just couldn’t take advantage of the position she was in and the set ended up being decided on the tie-break which Kerber won 7-3 to secure her first win of the tournament with Kvitova just winning 4/27 points behind her second serve!
Hingis/Mirza can’t stop winning!
Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza quest for their 10th title of the year got underway to a very good start with a 6-4 6-2 win against Jones and Spears winning their 15th match in a row on the tour, who can stop the world number one doubles team?
