Could Colin Fleming potential make the Davis Cup squad?

With the Davis Cup final at the end of next month now is the time to impress and Colin Fleming is certainly doing that. He and Jonathan Erlich won the title in Shenzhen last week and if he continues playing well should be in contention.

With the Davis Cup tie being on clay Colin does have a good record on the dirt. He is 10/2 in Davis Cup for Great Britain and last year in Petco Park against the USA when he played with Dom Inglot and lost to the Bryan Brothers in four sets.

However Colin has won a Davis Cup doubles match on clay. In 2014 as well against Italy on one of the worst clay courts in history he and Andy Murray won the match 6-3 6-2 3-6 7-5 against Bolleli and Fognini who are now one of the best doubles teams in the world this year.

Andy and Colin also won against Croatia in a play-off beating Dodig and Pavic in four sets on a clay court as well so you never know.

I think in fairness if Colin continues to play how he has been playing then he should be given a chance. I can’t see Andy or Jamie being dropped but is Dom’s place in the squad secure?
