Martina Hingis has been quite busy over the last couple of days. Not only did she win the mixed doubles title with Leander Paes but has now won the women’s doubles title with Sania Mirza their second Grand Slam title in a row having won Wimbledon and the first time since 1998 that Martina has won the US Open doubles tournament.
Martina and Sania are an unstoppable team right now and are on top of the world with their 5th title together this year and will be in action of course at the WTA Finals later next month. It was a very good performance against Dellacqua and Shvedova winning 6-3 6-3 but did have issues serving it out from Hingis at 5-2 in the second set but broke serve to win the match.
It really was a doubles master-class. Hingis was effective at the net and at the back of the court and lob shot into open space caused many issues for the fourth seeds and the power of Sania Mirza was fantastic to watch with some exceptional service return winners during the match and the power and accuracy off the forehand was amazing!
Here’s hoping for more titles from now until the end of the season for the world number one duo and maybe can look ahead to the Australian Open next year.
