Last week Belinda Bencic did something that has probably never been seen on the WTA tour before. The Swiss teenager is highly tipped become one of the best in the world one day and she certainly showed that last week in Toronto with a remarkable run to win her 2nd WTA title of the year and of her career. On her way to winning the title she defeated Eugenie Bouchard, Caroline Wozniacki, Sabine Lisicki, Ana Ivanovic, Serena Williams and Simona Halep which is an incredible achievement. To beat the current and three former world number one’s is exceptional and all of these players have been in Grand Slam finals before.
Last week’s achievement is a great platform for the future and now all eyes of the tennis world will be on her when she plays Angelique Kerber later today. Kerber likewise is in good form but did lose to Simona Halep the other day in Toronto however the German won her fourth WTA Premier title of the year a few weeks ago in Stanford where she beat Karolina Pliskova in the final.
Last week Belinda showed great confidence and composure on the court as well as great skill. Belinda’s serve has definitely improved over the last couple of months but has also improved her game and isn’t afraid to get involved in baseline rallies with some of the best and will go after their serve. Her best shot in my opinion is the forehand from the middle of the court what I do think can let her down is her defensive skills at times however she played so well last she spent most of her time on or inside the baseline controlling points.
Kerber is one of the most talented players on the tour and is having a very good year and will pose a different threat to Angelique Kerber. She works hard at the back of the court, her defensive skills are some of the best in tennis and you should never think you have the upper hand against her in rallies as she will pick you off and before you know it she will produce some incredible shot out of nowhere. Her court coverage and never give up attitude is brilliant and is why she has had so much success this year. Last year she produced the shot of the year, here it is…

Kerber is capable of producing some incredible and may have to beat Bencic something she has never done before.
Their only and previous meeting was at last year’s US Open when they met in the third round of the tournament and Bencic won the match 6-1 7-5 against the German. Will Bencic beat another top player or will Kerber end her run?
