Serena Williams withdraws from Stanford with elbow injury!
After pulling out of Sweden a couple of weeks ago with an elbow injury and taking a week or so off on the tour Serena has decided against playing the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford this coming week which means Caroline Wozniacki will now be the top seed. This elbow issue has been bothering Serena for a while so hopefully it gets sorted soon with Toronto, Cincinnati and of course the US Open coming up soon!
Eugenie Bouchard withdraws from CitiOpen in Washington again!
For the second year running Eugenie Bouchard has withdrawn from the CitiOpen in Washington. The Canadian has had a very poor year on the tour so her withdrawal is a bit of a surprise but apparently it is due to abdominal injury. Bouchard is set to play in her home country in a week’s time in Montreal where she didn’t have a good tournament last year and will be hoping for a better run this time round.
Victoria Azarenka also withdraws from CitiOpen in Washington!
Another top player who has withdrawn from the CitiOpen is Azarenka. It was Vika’s birthday yesterday however the Belarussian pulled out of the tournament with a shoulder injury and is another hoping to be fit in time for the next WTA Premier 5 Event in Toronto beginning on the 10th of August.
Stanford – Garbine Muguruza & Katerina Siniakova
Washington – Sara Errani & Daniela Hantuchova
