Garbine Muguruza d. Agnieszka Radwanska 6-2 3-6 6-3
It was a match with the highest quality of tennis on show. It had it’s fair share of Drama’s especially in the final which I will come to in a minute.
The first set was pretty much Muguruza who put any nerves she may have had behind her to take the set 6-2. Radwanska staged a bit of a comeback in the second set to take it 6-3 and at this point I would have said Radwanska would have had the experience to see it through at it wasn’t be as the drama unfolded.
Muguruza led 5-3 and her service game whilst serving for the match was at deuce. Muguruza played a shot which as hawkeye showed moments later actually was in by an inch. Radwanska didn’t challenge for about 6 seconds as her team said it was out, Muguruza hit the next shot out so Radwanska would have had break point but the ball was just in and Radwanska looked fuming with her team with Muguruza seeing match and point and went on to secure the win.
Serena Williams d. Maria Sharapova 6-2 6-4
Maria’s wait goes on. Serena ran the show in the opening set going up 4-1 for a double break and then 5-1. Sharapova held serve and made Serena serve out the opening set which she did for 6-2.
I think Sharapova deserves a lot of credit. She may have lost to Serena but she always kept competing, never gives up and I’m sure she is aware of her record against Serena over the last 11 years but she stuck at it and made her work for the victory but just couldn’t get the break back and at 5-4 Serena served out the match to win 6-2 6-4.
