Katie Swan was in action again today this time a much tougher opponent in Sofia Kenin from the USA seeded 9th for the tournament.
The match didn’t get off to a good start for Katie as she found herself 2-4 down in the set and looked in a bit of trouble however the Brit fought back for 5-5 and the first set went on to be decided by a tie-break which Swan dominated taking the tie-break 7-1.
The second set was a bit more one way traffic all in Katie’s favour as she went up a double break for a 3-0 lead before saving break points herself and one point away from a 4-0 lead in the set before the rain came again forcing a delay in play. After a 45 minute delay play resumed and Swan held for a 4-0 lead. She then went 5-1 up in the set holding serve from 0-30 and then 5-2 up and would serve for a place in the next round. Katie held from 0-15 and 30-30 to win the match 7-6 6-2 with the help of the net cord and will play Viktoria Kuzmova from Slovakia who is a qualifier and knocked out the fourth seed Anna Klainskaya in the first round.
