David Ferrer withdraws from Wimbledon!

Breaking news in the last few minutes is that David Ferrer has withdrawn from Wimbledon the day before the Championships begin due to an elbow injury.

The withdrawal from Ferrer means his consecutive run at Grand Slams comes to an end at 51 tournaments in the row with the last Slam he missed being the US Open in 2002.

David Ferrer was due to play Britain’s James Ward in the first round however his place has been taken by Luca Vanni who is ranked below Ward in the current rankings with the Italian not that experienced on grass and should be a match James Ward should be winning.
