British number two Johanna Konta recorded her biggest ever victory on the WTA tour at Eastbourne. Johanna is currently ranked at 140 in the world on the WTA tour and today comfortably defeated Makarova who is ranked number 8 in the world 6-2 6-4 and will face either Garbine Muguruza or Polona Hercog who qualified for the tournament and beat the defending champion Madison Keys in round one. A win against Muguruza or Hercoq will see Konta progress to the quarter finals.
Konta has had a very good month or so on the tour qualifying for Roland Garros but sadly losing a tight round one match losing 21-19 on the second set tie-break. She had a good run in Birmingham and Nottingham but sadly lost close matches to Pliskova and Niculescu.
Johanna was pretty exceptional in the first set only dropping 5 points on serve in four service games. The second set was a bit closer. Konta had a 4-3 lead serving for 5-3 however a few mistakes from the Brit and Makarova broke back for 4-4 before being broken herself by Konta for 5-4 and served out the biggest win of her career with no problem at all!
