Laura Robson makes her return to Tennis after 17 months out injured

Laura Robson made her long-waited return to Tennis today after 17 months out injured for the 21 year old. It was always going to be a tough return for Robson and even tougher when she was drawn against the top seed Daria Gavrilova in the first round of qualifying at Eastbourne.

Laura lost the match 6-0 6-1 which is a shame but at the same time it’s her first match for a year and a half and to get back onto court today was great for her and great for fans as the stadium was filled to see her make her return to tennis. With wrist problems and then surgery it is fantastic to see Laura back and hopefully can get back to her best. It’s not going to be an overnight job and she will be firing at 100% within two weeks but it will take time. Despite losing 6-0 6-1 Laura played with a smile on her face especially when she held serve at the beginning of the second set.

It is unknown yet whether Laura will receive a wildcard into the Wimbledon main draw or the qualifying draw or if she will receive one at all. I hope she does, maybe even doubles to get used to playing again. The first set of wildcards were released last week but Laura’s name wasn’t on the list.

I think it would be stupid to sit here and analyse the match but I think every British tennis and Laura Robson fan will agree it’s fantastic to her back on court!
