Unbeaten in the 2014/15 season England now have 6 wins in 6 matches in Euro 2016 and are all but there after an entertaining match against Slovenia.
Defence needs sorting out!
There is no way England can go into Euro 2016 and no know their settled back four. The defence seems to change every match when it needs to be something that doesn’t change every time England play. When you think about Spain, France, Italy etc.. you can name their back four but with England there are always questions asked.
Gary Cahill needs a partner in defence. Phil Jagielka was in the squad but seems to have fallen out of contention recently with Chris Smalling rightly in the team after a good season for Manchester United and has improved a lot. The problem is at full back where it changes too much. Phil Jones is not a full back and when Nathaniel Clyne is on the bench and Phil Jones and Jordan Henderson are there ahead of him when it’s not their position it is annoying. I do think if Baines wasn’t injured he would be first choice with Shaw as back up. Gibbs isn’t a regular for Arsenal and if he wants to become England’s left back he needs to play more. For me England’s best back four right now would be…
Clyne, Cahill, Smalling, Baines
World class Wilshere
Jack’s performance against Slovakia was simply brilliant. I haven’t been keen in the past with Jack playing in defensive midfield but he has been given the license to go foward and either Delph or Henderson fill it when he ventures forward. In my opinion it was one of the great performances for England I have ever seen. He covered every blade of grass with some crucial tackles and interceptions. He passing was spot on and his two goals were sublime.
Rooney’s getting closer…
Despite missing a couple of good chances Rooney did have a good game. He moved the ball really well in the first half to set up a couple of chances for Sterling and got his reward in the end scoring the winning goal and now only one behind Bobby Charlton in the England record goal scoring charts!
