It has probably been the most exciting FA Cup for a long while with the highlight being Bradford City’s 4-2 win at Chelsea however Arsenal and Aston Villa will be hoping to sign off this campaign with a trophy but who will lift the famous trophy on Saturday evening?
Theo or Olivier?
Arsene Wenger has an issue, he has too many players who can play in the same position and Theo Walcott’s performance against West Brom on the final day of the season has given him something to think about. Walcott has played less than 500 minutes of Premier League football this season but has scored 5 goals. Does Wenger pick Giroud who has played and scored less this season compared to last but links up well with the players around him, but so does Theo so who does Wenger chose?
If I were Wenger I would go with Theo Walcott. After watching Aston Villa defend atrociously at Southampton with the high line and the gaps between the two centre backs and the full backs you could have driven a bus between them. I would like to see a front four of Walcott, Sanchez, Ozil and Oxlade Chamberlain which would probably mean dropping Ramsey which would be stupid however I doubt Oxlade Chamberlain will start but could feature late on.
No, not Arsenal! Aston Villa! After their capitulation at Southampton there obviously are a few worries about their defence. Kieran Richardson and Jores Okore have trained this week and the big question is will they start the cup final? Aly Cissokho could also play whereas Ciaran Clark is injured.
After an excellent World Cup a lot was expected of Ron Vlaar this season and was even linked with a move to a couple of top Premier League sides however the man known as “Roncrete” because he has been so solid in defence hasn’t been to great and there have been a number of cracks in the Aston Villa defence. (Like what I did there?)
Villa’s defence is definitely something that needs improving over the summer however I’d like to see them play Hutton, Vlaar, Okore and Richardson at Wembley but do not play a high line otherwise the match would be over in 30 minutes!
Have you actually improved?
Arsenal have finished this season with less points than last season, failed in the Champions League as usual and could end up with the FA Cup again so my question is have they improved?
I will go into this a bit more on a future piece so do stay turned 😉
Why now Tim?
Before the big match for some reason Tim Sherwood has been speaking about Christian Benteke’s release clause in his contract which is a bit odd especially before the FA Cup final. After Christian’s form since Tim took over there was obviously going to be interest this summer and I suppose Tim has decided to put his price out there and it is up to those apparently interested to make their move.
I did think the timing was odd and would have waited until after the Cup final until they started talking about summer transfers and release clauses. Before talk turns to transfers could the Aston Villa forward upset the Arsenal party at Wembley this year?
